Increasingly web-sites are insisting that users creating accounts set complex passwords – great for increasing security as they are much harder to guess but much harder to remember. Add into the mix a limit on the number of times that you can try to enter a password and you have a recipe for major frustration.

Retrieving the situation is a combination of trying to send authentication permission to an alternative device (providing you entered a separate email address and/or your mobile number as a backup device when you created your account) or hoping that somewhere in the various devices and internet browsers that you might have used, you saved your logon credentials.

Regaining access to emails or some other user account is a delicate computer support experience but when it succeeds then it is certainly smiles all round followed by a discussion on password managers!
